Rano Karno Plans to Build Satpol PP Headquarters
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has spotlighted the plight of the Satpol PP, which lacks adequate facilities. The man known as Bang Doel has proposed building a Command Headquarters or Mako for Satpol PP. “That’s why Satpol PP doesn’t have a mako, it’s odd,” said Bang Doel at the Bhinneka Eduwisata Tourist Village, Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Friday (24/4). “It must be done, the mako is a priority, it should become a priority,” he added. A comprehensive evaluation regarding the welfare and supporting infrastructure for Satpol PP personnel is currently being discussed at the leadership level. “That’s why I spoke to Pak Gub the other day, it seems we need to evaluate again. Especially since we want to become a global city,” said Bang Doel. To date, the regional regulation enforcement institution has been deemed to have minimal representative shelter to accommodate its fleet and thousands of members. “You can imagine an institution that big, without a mako. Well, there is a small mako,” said Rano. Rano also highlighted the viral incident of a Satpol PP vehicle parked on the pavement. “How are they supposed to park if the mako doesn’t have space? For example, like that. So they end up loitering by the roadside. That’s the kind of thing,” he said. Rano explained that the headquarters construction plan had actually been budgeted, but was hindered by budget efficiency policies. “It was actually designed, budgeted. But it got hit by efficiency,” he said. Considering Jakarta’s vision towards becoming a Global City, the existence of adequate headquarters can no longer be delayed. The DKI Provincial Government is also studying the gradual addition of personnel to meet the ideal ratio for public protection, including the formation of a special Satpol PP Tourism unit that will operate with a more humane approach in tourist areas like Kota Tua. “The city is going to develop Kota Tua. It will be guarded by what they call Satpol PP for tourism. Humanistic, different uniforms, and maybe we’ll add education like that,” said Bang Doel.
