Rano Karno Officially Leads Jakarta Scouts, Sets Four Priority Programmes
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has been officially inaugurated as the Chairman of the Jakarta Regional Scout Council (Kwarda) for the 2024-2029 term. Rano has outlined four priority programmes that will be the focus of his leadership.
Rano stated that Jakarta Scouts must be present in the community and become a partner to the government in solving various urban issues. According to him, the Scout Movement has a strategic role in shaping the character of the younger generation while contributing to Jakarta’s development.
His first priority is to make the Scouts a development partner through the ‘Pramuka Peduli’ (Scouts Care) programme. He wants the Saka Kalpataru unit, together with the Environmental Agency, and the Saka Wanabakti unit, together with the Parks and Urban Forests Agency, to actively support waste sorting initiatives and urban greening efforts.
The second agenda is strengthening youth character building. Rano wants the Scouts to be pioneers in preventing bullying, drug abuse, and violence against children through collaboration with various related agencies.
Thirdly, Rano aims for the Scouts to become drivers of Betawi cultural preservation. He envisions scouting activities taking place in public spaces, schools, RPTRA (Child-Friendly Integrated Public Spaces), community halls, and cultural festivals to maintain Jakarta’s identity as a global city that remains rooted in its culture.
The fourth priority programme is strengthening disaster preparedness. Rano has requested that Scout members remain vigilant in assisting the community, including providing tent kitchens and water supplies during emergencies. He expressed gratitude that Scout preparedness units have consistently been present at every disaster event in Jakarta.
Rano concluded that the new Kwarda Jakarta leadership will adhere to national Scout headquarters guidelines while also creating specific programmes suited to Jakarta’s unique character as a special region.
