Rano Karno officially launches Jakarta Film Commission
Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno has officially launched the Jakarta Film Commission (JFC) as a strategic move by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen the film ecosystem and promote Jakarta as a cinema city and the centre of the national film industry.
The JFC’s role is to support the development of the film ecosystem while facilitating film and audiovisual production in Jakarta through information services, coordination, and industry facilitation. Through the JFC, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also presenting the Filming in Jakarta platform as an integrated service that simplifies the production process, from providing information and coordination to licensing and access to various shooting locations.
According to Rano, this service is needed to make Jakarta more competitive as a film production location. He stated that the Jakarta Film Commission embodies a one-stop service ecosystem for the film industry, with a current focus on the Filming in Jakarta programme and future plans to develop various forms of collaboration with film industry players.
The JFC operates under PT Jakarta Tourisindo, also known as the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB), a DKI Jakarta regional-owned enterprise engaged in tourism and the creative industries. Rano noted that international film industry interest in Jakarta is steadily increasing, with several producers from South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam having expressed interest in producing in the capital. He is optimistic that the film industry will become a driver of Jakarta’s creative economy. Based on data obtained, the number of Indonesian cinema-goers from January to June 2026 reached approximately 36 million people and is projected to hit 120 million by the end of the year.
