Rano Karno Initiates AI-Based Rimba Raya Series for Nature Education
Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has initiated a new breakthrough in the country’s entertainment world through a cinematic series titled Rimba Raya. The project has drawn attention because it utilises artificial intelligence (AI) technology to highlight the shifting relationship between humans and nature in the modern era.
At a press conference held in Jakarta on Saturday (15/8), Rano revealed that his concern began with observations of the current generation, including his own grandchild. He sees a widening gap between children and direct experience of the natural world.
“Look at children, perhaps we need not look too far, my grandchild. He knows the word tiger but does not know what it looks like, and so on,” said the man widely known for his character Si Doel.
The initial idea for Rimba Raya focuses on changes in how the new generation interacts with the world. The story is developed through the journey of two main characters, Rimba and Raya, who take viewers on an exploration of Indonesia’s natural wealth.
Rano emphasised that the series uses an entertainment approach so that the message conveyed remains relevant and emotional for today’s audiences.
According to him, nature in this series is not merely a visual backdrop, but an integral part of the characters’ conflicts and emotional experiences.
“Actually, this is a wake-up call for all of us about how important nature is, not just the forest and all its contents. This is for children, for grandchildren, so that they can learn how to love the environment,” he added.
President Director of Karnos Visual Magic, Anton Soeharyo, explained that the main strength of Rimba Raya lies in its ability to invite viewers to enjoy the story first before delving into a deeper educational message.
It is hoped that the series will become a catalyst for the younger generation to rebuild a healthy relationship with nature without damaging the ecosystems within it.
This ambitious project is the result of cross-sector collaboration involving a production house, a streaming platform, and an environmental organisation.
The Rimba Raya series is scheduled to premiere on 17 August 2026, coinciding with the momentum of Independence Day, as a gift for Indonesia’s young generation to better appreciate the natural wealth of the archipelago.
