Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has initiated the creation of a cinematic series using artificial intelligence (AI) assistance, titled “Rimba Raya”, which highlights the changing relationship between humans and nature.

“Look at the children, perhaps no need to look too far, my own grandchild. He knows what a tiger is but does not know what it looks like, and so on,” said Rano Karno during a press conference in Jakarta on Saturday.

The man closely associated with the character Doel from the hit television series “Si Doel Anak Betawi” said that the initial idea for the story of “Rimba Raya” stemmed from the changing way new generations interact with the world and the growing distance from direct experience with nature.

The idea was then developed into a world, characters, and the story journey of the characters Rimba and Raya.

He said the series draws its strength from a storytelling approach that presents Indonesia’s natural world through an entertainment perspective relevant to today’s generation.

It is hoped that the story presented can encourage the new generation to see nature not merely as a backdrop to life, but as something close, alive, and an important part of the human journey.

Through an entertainment approach, Rano said nature is presented as part of the story’s world, the characters’ journeys, conflicts, curiosity, and the emotional experiences built throughout the narrative.

“Actually, this is an awakening for all of us about how important nature is, not just the forest and everything in it. And secondly, this is really for children, for grandchildren, so that they learn how to love the environment, because I am taking a more child-focused approach with this segment,” he said.

President Director of Karnos Visual Magic Anton Soeharyo said the strength of Rimba Raya lies in its ability to invite audiences to enjoy a story first and foremost.

From that approach, he hopes curiosity will emerge about the forest, the life within it, the relationship between humans and nature, and what might be lost when that relationship slowly drifts away from everyday life in the minds of the younger generation.

The series is also expected to spark the idea that humans have a role in rebuilding a healthy relationship with nature without destroying everything within it.

“We developed Rimba Raya as an entertainment work that makes nature not merely a backdrop, but an important part of the story’s journey,” said Anton.

The series “Rimba Raya” is produced by Karnos Visual Magic in collaboration with Vidio and Artha Graha Peduli. It will premiere on the Vidio platform on 17 August 2026.
