Rano Karno Inaugurates Portable Water Treatment Facility in West Jakarta's Semanan, Solution for Clean Water Needs
Jakarta – Jakarta’s Deputy Governor Rano Karno inaugurated the Portable Water Treatment Installation (IPA) on Kresek Main Road, Duri Kosambi, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
Kompas.com observations at the site showed Rano arriving with West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah and PAM Jaya’s President Director Arief Nasrudin.
Rano toured the installation area and drank the processed water produced by PAM Jaya directly.
“Today, representing the Governor, I am inaugurating the Portable Water Treatment Installation in Semanan. One of its key purposes is to serve the western part of Jakarta, an area that greatly needs clean water services,” Rano stated at the location on Wednesday.
According to him, this inauguration is part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to achieve a 100% piped drinking water service coverage target by 2029.
The Semanan Portable IPA will serve the areas of RT 03 and RT 10 in RW 08, Semanan, Kalideres.
“This installation serves a total of 295 customers, comprising 202 existing customers and 93 new ones. Providing safe, accessible, and sustainable drinking water is expected to enhance community quality of life while reducing dependence on groundwater,” Rano explained.
Rano noted that the water produced by PAM Jaya’s IPA, sourced from the Aseni Reservoir and Semanan River, can be consumed directly and safely.
However, he emphasised that the installation is temporary or a short-term project.
“Certainly, since the technology is portable, it is temporary. Once the permanent reservoir construction is completed, this can be relocated elsewhere. That’s the system,” Rano remarked.
Meanwhile, PAM Jaya’s President Director Arief Nasrudin explained that West Jakarta is at the end of the distribution pipeline, so customers often face water flow issues.
The presence of this portable IPA is certain to smooth the flow of clean water to densely populated residential areas in Cengkareng.
“Its capacity is only 2 to 4 LPS (litres per second). And its coverage is just around 400 households. But this is a critical point where problems always arise due to the long distance of the WTP network and the pusher not reaching here. That’s why we built this,” Arief said.
According to Arief, the system is communal, similar to those already built in Penjaringan and Muara Karang, North Jakarta, as well as those used during emergency disaster periods in Aceh.
“But currently, only one 8 million-litre storage tank is being built, which will be completed in May 2027. And we will also build a WTP to fill it with a production capacity of 200 LPS, which will be groundbreaking in August,” he revealed.
In the future, Arief said, PAM Jaya will also develop other innovations to capture water from the air as an additional supply source.
