Governor Rano Karno made these remarks whilst presenting awards to the winners of the Future Preachers and Preacheresses Competition (Kompetisi Dai dan Daiyah Masa Depan) honouring the Jakarta Governor, held for secondary school (SMA), vocational school (SMK), and Islamic secondary school (MA) students across Jakarta at City Hall on Tuesday, 10 March.

In his remarks, Rano acknowledged that the preachers competition held positive value for Jakarta’s young people in developing their preaching capabilities whilst enhancing their ability to communicate Islamic messages.

“Through this preachers competition, students are encouraged to refine their rhetorical skills in preaching whilst developing their potential to deliver Islamic messages that are soothing and relevant to contemporary developments,” said Rano.

He stated that the event would be organised annually as part of the effort to develop young people in religious matters.

According to him, the high enthusiasm among students participating in the competition deserved to be appreciated. From a total of 209 registrants, 97 participants progressed to the next stage, with 12 eventually selected as grand finalists.

“Therefore, I have instructed that this activity be held every year. This demonstrates the great enthusiasm of Jakarta’s young people to learn preaching and contribute to spreading values of goodness within society,” Rano said.

He also expressed hope that the competition would produce young Jakarta preachers who not only possess public speaking abilities but also have deep religious knowledge, exemplary moral character, and love for their nation and homeland.

“Good preaching is not only heard from the pulpit but is also reflected in attitude, behaviour, and concern for others. I hope this competition produces young preachers capable of spreading soothing Islamic messages whilst serving as role models for society,” Rano stated.
