Jakarta, Kompas.com - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno has acknowledged that there are still level crossings without guards in the region. He believes that the number of level crossings in Jakarta with official barriers is greater than those without. However, he stressed the importance of ensuring whether those crossings are also equipped with guards. He does not yet know the exact number of unguarded railway crossings. Rano affirmed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will evaluate all level crossings, particularly those without guards. This is because such points often become locations for accidents. One of the efforts currently being undertaken by the Jakarta Provincial Government is building a flyover in Latumenten, West Jakarta. The flyover is being constructed to address the frequent congestion problems at the level crossing in that area. In addition to the Latumenten project, a flyover is planned to be built in Bintaro. However, that project still faces several obstacles, including issues with the local community. Previously, data from PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Operations (Daop) 1 Jakarta recorded hundreds of level crossings prone to accidents, especially those not equipped with barriers and guard posts. Based on KAI data, there are 423 level crossing points in the operational area of Daop 1 Jakarta, covering the Banten region to Cikampek. Of that number, 130 points fall into the unguarded category.
