Rano Karno: Headache If Fuel Prices Rise from US-Iran Conflict
Jakarta — Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno has cautioned the public to prepare for the impact of rising fuel prices resulting from the ongoing international conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Karno jokingly remarked that the unending state of conflict is causing headaches because fuel prices are soaring sharply.
“If the war situation persists, ladies and gentlemen, our heads are also throbbing here. If fuel rises more than 100 dollars,” Karno said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (17 March 2026).
According to Karno, the government faces an extremely difficult situation.
“Then the prices of basic necessities rise. It’s not easy, folks,” Karno said.
In response to this situation, Karno encouraged the public to strengthen community bonds following the religious holidays. He suggested that shared meals at City Hall could be held more frequently as a form of solidarity in facing economic pressures.
“That is why after Eid al-Fitr, we must increasingly strengthen our community ties. At minimum, communal meals at City Hall will be held more frequently,” Karno said.
Karno noted that this measure represents a follow-up to central government directives.
“For work-from-home implementation, the guidance from the central government will be carried out in Jakarta as well,” Karno said when met near the National Monument area in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
Karno stated that the protracted conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel could potentially place pressure on global energy supplies. This situation, he said, could impact the availability of gas and fuel, including in Indonesia.
“This prolonged war in Iran will certainly place pressure on energy provision, especially for gas and fuel,” he said.
