Rano Karno Confident Jakarta Residents Will Maintain Orderly and Environmentally Conscious Practices During Eid al-Adha
JAKARTA — Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno is confident that residents can celebrate the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Adha and carry out sacrificial animal slaughter in an orderly manner while preserving the environment.
“I am very confident that our community already knows how to slaughter properly, as it is not done haphazardly. I am sure it will proceed smoothly,” Rano Karno said at the DKI Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.
According to Rano, Eid al-Adha is an annual celebration observed by Muslims across Indonesia, including Jakarta. Therefore, he believes the public is well-versed in performing the sacrifice correctly and orderly, while also maintaining environmental cleanliness.
DKI Jakarta Environment Agency Chief Dudi Gardesi stated that EcoQurban is a practice for conducting sacrificial animal slaughter that considers environmental cleanliness from the slaughtering process to meat distribution to the public.
With approximately 68,000 sacrificial animals to be slaughtered this Eid al-Adha, the number poses a risk of generating large amounts of waste, including blood, unused organs and body parts, and high water usage during slaughter and cleaning.
Additionally, meat production has a significant water footprint, requiring about 15 cubic metres of water to produce one kilogram of beef.
Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency emphasises the importance of proper waste management to prevent pollution and waste accumulation during Eid al-Adha.
