Rano Karno Baffled by DKI Satpol PP Lacking Proper Headquarters: Like Police Without a Regional Command, It's Odd

Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has voiced his bewilderment over the current state of the Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), which still lacks a proper command headquarters (mako).

He assessed that an institution as large as Satpol PP should have a suitable command centre to support its operations.

“I visited the Satpol PP office yesterday. You can imagine, such a large institution without a mako. There’s only a small mako in the Kebon Sirih area,” Rano said when met in the Kebon Kosong area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026).

Rano even compared the situation to a police institution without a main regional office.

“Sorry for the term, if the police don’t have a Polda, it’s odd. That’s why if Satpol PP doesn’t have a mako, it’s odd,” he stated.

He added that the need for a mako had previously been planned and budgeted. However, its realisation was delayed due to budget efficiency policies.

“That’s why I spoke with the Governor yesterday; it seems we need to evaluate this again,” he said.

Besides the mako issue, Rano also highlighted the heavy workload of Satpol PP members.

He noted that over the past nearly one year, 35 Satpol PP DKI Jakarta members have passed away.

Although not occurring simultaneously, the figure is considered a serious concern.

“It’s not in an instant; there’s a time span. It’s a task risk,” Rano said.

In the future, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will evaluate the needs for facilities and infrastructure of Satpol PP, including plans for building the mako, in line with efforts to strengthen Jakarta’s role as a global city.

“We must evaluate this issue again, especially as we want to become a global city,” Rano revealed.
