Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has approved the plan to add 5,000 personnel to the Satuan Polisi Pamong Praja (Satpol PP) of DKI Jakarta. “If Satpol PP requests 5,000, it might just happen,” Rano said when met in the Kebon Kosong area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026). He assessed that adding personnel to Satpol PP is necessary because their current numbers are still insufficient, making their workload quite heavy and impacting their health conditions. However, Rano stated that the addition of personnel would not happen all at once. “But it will be gradual,” he continued. According to Rano, adding personnel is a reasonable need given the large burden of duties on Satpol PP as enforcers of regional regulations. He also highlighted the limitations of the facilities owned by the agency, including the lack of an adequate command headquarters (mako). “There’s only a small mako in the Kebon Sirih area. It’s actually a reasonable demand. Satpol PP is the implementer of the law in enforcement,” he said. He added that with a large number of personnel and vehicles, Satpol PP requires adequate infrastructure support. He even described the condition without a main mako as not ideal for an institution as large as Satpol PP. In addition, he mentioned the high workload on Satpol PP members that impacts their health conditions. Rano noted that 35 members were reported to have died due to the heavy risks of their work. “That’s what caused those 35 deaths, not in an instant, there’s a time span. That’s the risk of the job,” Rano said.
