Rano Karno: 59,000 Jakarta Workers' Cards Have Been Issued, Benefits Are Tangible
Rano Karno stated this during his speech at the PDIP Labour Day commemoration event titled ‘Banteng Pro Pekerja’ at GOR Otista, East Jakarta, on Sunday (3/5/2026). Rano described workers as the backbone of the economy in Jakarta.
“In the midst of global economic uncertainty, we are reminded not to neglect workers’ rights. In reality, workers are the backbone that keeps the wheels of Jakarta’s economy turning,” said Rano Karno.
The Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta emphasised the importance of synergy between government, labour, and entrepreneurs to create a conducive work climate. He explained that the KPJ provides benefits that support the lives of workers in Jakarta.
“To date, more than 59,000 KPJ have been issued. The benefits are tangible, ranging from free access to public transport, food subsidies, to educational support for workers’ families,” he stated.
He also detailed several other programmes such as the Jakarta Student Card (KJP), Jakarta Residents’ Card (KLJ), and health insurance to maintain workers’ purchasing power. Rano advised that Labour Day commemorations should not stop at ceremonial activities but become spaces for constructive dialogue.
“This Labour Day commemoration should serve as a space for dialogue to voice aspirations and strengthen the city’s economy together. Collaboration is the key to remaining resilient,” he said.
