DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has expressed hope that agencies within the DKI Provincial Government (Pemprov) will develop home renovation programmes as a demonstration of concern and mutual cooperation in improving the welfare of residents in the capital.

He made the remarks after laying the foundation stone for a Home Renovation Programme initiated by the DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) on Jalan Pedongkelan Ukir Dalam, No. 39, Kapuk Sub-district, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta, on Wednesday.

"We (DKI Pemprov) have a home renovation programme, but for agencies such as Satpol PP, hopefully this will be continued by other departments. This represents concern and mutual cooperation from the community in addition to the regional government," Rano said.

According to him, housing is one of Jakarta's primary challenges, particularly given that the current population exceeds the capacity of the city's land area.

For this reason, the DKI Provincial Government has been building public housing flats aimed at improving substandard living environments.

"Jakarta now has public housing flats that are far better, truly excellent. Compared with public housing in Singapore, Jakarta's flats are far superior," Rano said.

At the same event, DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Head Satriadi Gunawan committed to running the home renovation programme monthly across Jakarta's various administrative areas.

"The forms will vary — some may involve a complete renovation. Every month, we will try to go around and see where the need is greatest," Satriadi said.

In February 2026, DKI Satpol PP is renovating a 33.83-square-metre building in Kapuk, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, which houses three families totalling eight people, two of whom are persons with disabilities.

The building, Satriadi explained, consists of three sections: the first measuring 1.23 m × 5.5 m, the second 2.46 m × 5.5 m, and the third 2.46 m × 5.5 m.

The building being renovated is approximately 40 years old, with a leaking roof, an inadequate bathroom, unplastered walls, a substandard ceiling, and non-compliant electrical installations.

The home renovation project will run from February to April 2026, with a budget of Rp70 million, pooled from contributions by DKI Satpol PP members.
