Rano Explains Why Jakarta Provincial Government Needs Danantara to Develop LRT

Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno has revealed the reasons why the Jakarta Provincial Government requires support from Danantara to continue the development of the Jakarta LRT. The prepared plan involves extending the LRT lines from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas and from Kelapa Gading to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).

Rano stated that the plan to collaborate with Danantara aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive that Jakarta does not belong solely to Jakartans, but is part of Indonesia. “As the President has conveyed, Jakarta does not only belong to Jakarta; Jakarta belongs to Indonesia. In that moment, that opportunity, we are inviting Danantara as a State-Owned Enterprise that is now merging into one great force,” Rano said in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/09/2026).

According to Rano, the Jakarta Provincial Government has plans to continue the construction of several LRT lines. One of the most prominent is the route extension from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas.

“Because we have plans to continue several LRT lines. The most clearly visible is from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas,” he said.

Rano mentioned that the extension of these lines has the potential to increase the number of LRT users. However, he emphasised that the primary goal of public transport development is not merely to chase passenger numbers.

“If it happens, the increase in passenger numbers will certainly be much higher,” he explained. He added that the Jakarta Provincial Government aims to make public transport the primary choice for residents travelling within Jakarta. “Our main target is not the number of passengers, but to ensure that public transport in Jakarta truly becomes the preferred choice for the people of Jakarta,” he noted.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung previously revealed plans to continue the development of the Jakarta LRT to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail (Whoosh). He requested support from Danantara to help realise these plans.

Pramono made these remarks during the inauguration of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT route at Manggarai LRT Station, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/09/2026). The inauguration was officiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Mr President, what is also pleasing is that we will continue this LRT from Kelapa Gading to JIS, and then from Velodrome to Whoosh, the high-speed rail,” said Pramono. “Mr President, it would be even more pleasing if you could then task Danantara to also assist us, Sir,” he continued.
