Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno affirmed that the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to supporting religious and cultural activities from all community groups as part of efforts to strengthen tolerance and social harmony. He noted that various interfaith celebrations held in Jakarta, including Christmas Carol, Imlek, Nyepi, and Waisak, demonstrate that diversity can be a strength with positive impacts on both society and the local economy. He made the remarks while opening the 2026 Jakarta Regional Catholic Church Choir Festival (Pesparani) in Central Jakarta on Saturday. The event serves as a platform for spiritual development, promotion of church arts, and reinforcing Jakarta as a global city that upholds diversity and tolerance. In his speech, Rano praised the consistent organisation of Pesparani, which is not only a competition but also a venue for strengthening brotherhood and social cohesion among Jakarta’s residents. “Pesparani, song competitions, and choir activities are part of cultural events that can boost Jakarta’s Global City Index. One of the criteria for a global city is a culture that continues to develop with international standards,” Rano said. He added that next year, the Jakarta LP3KD will mark its 10th anniversary, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of Jakarta, the 220th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Jakarta, and the 55th anniversary of the church where the event is held. Therefore, he is ready to collaborate with the Jakarta Provincial Government on various activities supporting cultural development and community life. Through the 2026 Pesparani, the Jakarta Provincial Government and LP3KD Jakarta hope to nurture high-quality singers and church ministers, while reinforcing values of togetherness, tolerance, and culture as Jakarta’s identity on its path to becoming a global city.
