MANILA (AFP): A note found on the alleged mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing in New York, threatened terrorist attacks in the Philippines and on American and Pakistani business interests worldwide, the Philippine presidential security chief said Thursday.
Gen. Leo Alvez, commander of the presidential security group, said the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation handed over to him a note found on the suspect, Ramzi Ahmed Yousef, when he was arrested in Pakistan by police and U.S. agents on Feb. 7.
The note said that international terrorists would launch attacks in the Philippines and on American and Pakistani interests worldwide.
Alvez said the note, which was received from the FBI a week after Ramzi was apprehended, was unsigned and supposedly intended to be sent to Islamic fundamentalist members.
He denied local press reports that the note was personally addressed to Philippine President Fidel Ramos.
