Ramos's daughter chairs sports body
MANILA (AFP): The daughter of Philippine President Fidel Ramos
has been elected head of the Philippine Olympic Committee, the
country's highest sports body, local dailies reported here
yesterday.
Cristy Ramos-Jalasco, who heads the national karate
association, won by just one vote over her main rival, Celso
Dayrit of the fencing association in a closely-fought race.
Ramos-Jalasco, who will serve as president of the sports body
for four years, benefited from her ties to the leaders of other
sports associations, particularly her mother, Amelita Ramos, who
heads the badminton association and who actively campaigned for
her daughter.
The Ramos family are known to be active in sports with the
president occasionally taking breaks from his official duties to
go golfing and scuba-diving.
