Ramos, Khamtay to boost ties

MANILA (AFP): Philippine President Fidel Ramos and Lao Prime
Minister Khamtay Siphandone agreed yesterday to increase
cooperation in technical training and agriculture and forestry.

An official statement said Ramos and Khamtay witnessed the
signing of two agreements for boosting cooperation in these areas
after a meeting at the Philippine presidential palace where they
discussed bilateral and regional issues.

Under the first agreement, the Philippines will offer Laos its
technical expertise and training while the second agreement calls
on both countries to learn from each other's experiences in these
sectors, the statement said.

Khamtay was on the second day of a three-day state visit, the
first trip by a Laotian head of state to the Philippines.
