Ramayana bombers face 3 years in jail
JAKARTA (JP): A prosecutor demanded on Tuesday that the Central Jakarta District Court sentence three defendants in the January bombing of the Ramayana Department Store on Jl. Sabang in Central Jakarta to between one and three years in jail.
Prosecutor Tonny Sinai said the defendants -- Giyono, 29, Sundah, 30, and Satilan, 35 -- were guilty of carrying and detonating bombs, a violation of Article 1 of the 1951 Law on Emergencies, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
Tonny demanded the judges sentence first defendant Giyono and third defendant Satilan to two years and two months in jail, and second defendant Sundah to one year and six months.
He alleged the three defendants had assisted Amir, the leader of the gang which reportedly blew up the Ramayana Department Store on Jan. 2 this year.
Tonny said all of the gang members were involved in detonating the three bombs on Jan. 2, but only one bomb exploded.
"The bombing ruined the Ramayana store, and severely damaged other buildings next to the department store," he said.
Tonny said Rosalin eventually gave the gang only Rp 40 million ($4,545) for the job, because she was dissatisfied with the result.
"The explosion did not meet her expectations," Tonny said, quoting Rosalin in her testimony before the police investigators.
Judge Musa adjourned the trial until next week, when he will announce the verdict. (asa)
