JAKARTA - Society’s shopping patterns during Ramadan 2026 show a shift. Previously, consumption was synonymous with basic needs and fashion; this year, a more diverse shopping trend has emerged, including for lifestyle products and long-term needs. Blibli data indicates that, compared to the average daily transactions one month before Ramadan, the groceries category such as syrup and snacks has grown nearly fourfold. However, surges have also occurred in non-essential categories. Sports equipment like tennis and padel has increased more than fivefold, becoming one of the highest growths during Ramadan 2026. Meanwhile, household electronic products such as LED TVs, washing machines, microwaves, ACs, refrigerators, and rice cookers have grown nearly twofold. Self-care products have also experienced a similar rise. Blibli’s Head of Campaign, Indra Perdana, stated that this trend indicates a change in consumer shopping motivation during Ramadan. This shift in consumption patterns emerges amid economic conditions described as still under pressure. Controlled inflation and persistently optimistic consumer confidence are said not to be fully accompanied by a recovery in purchasing power. This situation is assessed to encourage society to be more selective in determining shopping priorities. In that context, the increase in transactions in sports and electronics categories is seen to reflect a shift in consumer preferences that are beginning to allocate spending to products with longer-term benefits. In terms of demographics, the 25 to 44 age group is recorded as the largest contributor to transactions during Ramadan 2026, with a relatively balanced gender composition of 54 percent men and 46 percent women. Meanwhile, in terms of payments, transactions are dominated by virtual accounts, followed by credit cards and digital wallets.
