Ramadan Seminar at Istiqlal Mosque: Suhoor as an Endeavour for Optimal Worship
RAMADAN is not only about fasting but about maintaining energy and stamina throughout the day. Many families still rely on the sensation of fullness as the main indicator of sahur, without ensuring the nutritional adequacy required by the body. The combination of carbohydrates, protein, fibre, milk, and ten essential vitamins and minerals forms the foundation for keeping the body strong, focused, and not easily fatigued during the fast. As a preferred option for a complete and nutritious family breakfast, Energen continues to reinforce its commitment to educate Indonesian families about the importance of a complete nutritious breakfast and sahur. Through the Ramadan Study with Energen held on 3 March 2026 at Istiqlal Mosque, Energen emphasises that sahur is not merely about satiating hunger but about ensuring complete nutrition and thus staying full longer to support the body to endure fasting all day. Understanding this need, Energen presents itself as a complement for a complete nutritious sahur that is practical and easy to prepare. With its nutritional content, Energen helps children and Indonesian families feel fuller for longer and to experience Ramadan more strongly and comfortably each day. The Ramadan study was attended by more than 12,000 visitors who eagerly participated in the series of events. In the study session, Habib Ja’far spoke about the importance of balancing worship and health during fasting, including ensuring a sufficient and nutritious sahur. “Fasting is not just about resisting hunger and thirst, but also about safeguarding the body’s trust. A nutritious sahur is an endeavour to make our worship run more optimally,” said Habib Ja’far. In line with this, Dr. Kurniawan Satria Denta, M.Sc, Sp.A, a Paediatric Endocrinologist, emphasised the importance of nutrient composition during sahur. “Sahur that contains a combination of carbohydrates, protein, fibre, and vitamins and minerals helps slow hunger and maintain energy more steadily throughout the day,” he explained. Also in attendance was Irish Bella, a celebrity and mother, who shared her experiences attending the Ramadan study with Energen. “The study was insightful and reminded me that fasting is not just about refraining from food, but also about looking after health as a responsibility. Nutritious sahur is important so that the family can feel fuller for longer and remain strong to endure the fast all day. As a mother, this serves as a reminder to me to pay more attention to the sahur intake of my children and family,” said Irish Bella. “It is interesting because, in addition to discussing the meaning of Ramadan from a spiritual perspective, the study also covered the importance of maintaining health during fasting, including ensuring complete nutritional intake at sahur. The insights shared are very helpful for me in preparing more accurate and nutritious menus for my family,” said one attendee of the Ramadan study. Haruman Rustandi, Marketing Director Coffee & Health Food at PT Mayora Indah Tbk., added that through this activity Energen aims to continue building awareness of the importance of a complete nutritious sahur. “Energen wants to cultivate awareness that a glass of Energen can help meet the satiation and comprehensive nutrition requirements at sahur, especially at moments when families need a solution that helps them feel full longer, is easy to prepare but remains nutritious,” he said. In contrast to previous years, traffic peaks during the predawn hours in Ramadan. Uncontrolled carbohydrate consumption at sahur can trigger metabolic disturbances, particularly in the pancreas and kidneys. Coffee has diuretic effects; it can lead to frequent urination and dehydration if fluids are not consumed throughout the day. The composition and portions of meals at sahur directly affect an individual’s blood sugar stability. The strategy of increasing simple carbohydrates at sahur is not the right approach as it can trigger hunger sooner. Imam of Istiqlal Grand Mosque Nasaruddin Umar revealed a number of major renovation and development plans, including reorganisation, lighting, and improvements to the surrounding area. Worshippers at Tarawih prayers filled Masjid Istiqlal. The mosque announced it would provide up to 10,000 free iftar meals for worshippers during Ramadan 1447 Hijri. A fire occurred in the Masjid Istiqlal server room in Central Jakarta on Wednesday night 18 February around 20:40 local time. BPMI and Istiqlal Global Fund (IGF) showed humanitarian concern by distributing aid from Masjid Istiqlal congregants to communities affected by natural disasters in Aceh Tamiang.
