Jakarta, VIVA – The holy month of Ramadan is a moment for Muslims to increase good deeds and draw closer to Allah SWT; one way is to share kindness with orphans and the needy. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, ‘I and the one who takes care of an orphan will be in paradise like this,’ while touching together his index finger and middle finger (HR. Bukhari).

Meaning of this hadith is that those who nurture, care for, or support orphans will attain a position very close to the Prophet in paradise. The closing of two fingers touching indicates very close proximity, almost no distance.

These sentiments inspired PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) to organise a series of activities under Ramadan Madani, Maknai Harmoni, a programme presenting various positive activities during Ramadan, ranging from after-Dzuhur study sessions, daily iftar gatherings, to i’tikaf activities that involve PNM Insan in a climate of togetherness and spiritual reflection.

As the pinnacle of this year’s Ramadan activities, on 5 March 2026, PNM organised charitable giving to 250 orphans and the needy from Yayasan Kota Pelangi, Yayasan Aisyiyah Taman Menteng, and children from families of PNM Mekaar customers who are poor.

In addition to Qur’an recitation, listening to tausiyah, and receiving charitable aid, they were also invited to learn about the world of work through role-play of working at PNM in various divisions, so they could directly experience how PNM’s empowerment of ultra-micro, micro, and small entrepreneurs is implemented.

Accompanied by PNM Insan, the children practised simple activities that illustrate the role of each division in supporting the empowerment of underprivileged communities. The activities were packaged in a light manner with a variety of games to make it easy for the children to understand.

One participant expressed his/her joy, saying, ‘It was so fun to join this activity. I now know that working can help many people. I hope I can have a useful job like the older siblings here.’ This experience is expected to foster enthusiasm and hope that every child has an equal opportunity to dream and contribute to society, regardless of social or economic background.
