Ramadan Momentum Strengthens Social Awareness and Human Solidarity
The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) has unveiled the theme “Ramadan Month of Humanity” for its various Ramadan programmes this year, as announced by PKS Secretary General Muhammad Kholid whilst opening the 12-Hour Qur’an Marathon event at the PKS Central Office Hall in Jakarta.
The 12-Hour Qur’an Marathon activity during Ramadan was guided by Musthofa Faruq, Mahmuda Rizaldi, Rezky Cocip, and Yhuda Arifin.
Kholid stated that the Ramadan theme as a month of humanity was chosen to affirm that Ramadan is not only understood as a moment for personal worship, but also as a strengthening of social concern. “What PKS aims to achieve this Ramadan is to present various Ramadan activities with the theme Ramadan Month of Humanity. This theme is rarely emphasised, yet it is highly relevant. Ramadan is synonymous with the spirit of sharing, helping, and mutual strengthening,” said Kholid.
According to him, the spirit of humanity becomes increasingly important given the various disasters occurring in several regions of Indonesia. “Besides being a month of worship and outreach, we also make Ramadan a month of humanity so that we can help restore our brothers and sisters affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and other regions,” he explained.
He also emphasised the importance of empathy towards the Palestinian people’s struggle as they continue to face prolonged conflict. “Ramadan should also be a momentum to cultivate empathy towards our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” he added.
Kholid stressed that sharing in Islam is not something that diminishes wealth, but rather brings blessings. “Sharing is not truly reducing what we have. In Islamic concept, sharing will actually increase because God rewards it with manifold returns,” he said.
Throughout Ramadan, PKS is implementing various humanitarian programmes such as opening community kitchens in disaster-affected areas, programmes for breaking fast and pre-dawn meals with the community, the Movement of a Thousand Youth Mosques, and encouraging PKS public officials to actively share with society.
Additionally, PKS will establish PKS Migration Assistance Centres to help those travelling for Eid homecomings. “The hope is that Ramadan becomes a momentum to strengthen social awareness and human solidarity,” concluded Kholid.
As Eid al-Fitr approaches, shopping centres have begun presenting various thematic programmes to attract visitors whilst facilitating community needs during Ramadan. The Ramadan momentum is being utilised as a space to strengthen social solidarity while promoting concern for public health.
Coordinating Minister Muhaimin explained that this programme is part of efforts to strengthen national collaboration in poverty alleviation. Indonesia possesses strong social capital in the form of mutual assistance traditions and solidarity that have become the nation’s identity.
Gree and FLiFE provided assistance in the form of food packages, care facility supplies, and financial aid for elderly care home residents. A breaking fast gathering with 1,000 orphaned children was held as part of a commitment to share happiness and strengthen social awareness during the sacred month of Ramadan.
