Ramadan Inflation Trends 2022-2025: Food and Beverages Drive Prices
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has documented that inflation consistently affects the Consumer Price Index (IHK) during Ramadan over the past five years, according to BPS data.
Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Statistics of Distribution and Services at BPS, noted that over the past five years, Ramadan inflation this year in February 2026 stands lower compared to 0.95% in 2022. Throughout the past five years, the highest inflation spike was recorded in 2025 at 1.65%. Overall, volatile commodities have contributed significantly to inflation drivers.
“Generally, volatile commodities, along with commodities in food, beverages, and tobacco, have been the primary causes of inflation contributions during each Ramadan period,” Ateng stated during a press conference on Monday, 2 March 2026.
However, for Ramadan in 2026, inflation is primarily driven by gold price increases. Gold’s contribution to inflation reached 0.19%. According to BPS data, gold inflation has been a driver since Ramadan in 2024.
Gold inflation in February 2026 was recorded as quite significant, at 8.42% year-on-year (YoY).
