Ramadan in Pamekasan, Prices of 11 Staple Goods Still High
Pamekasan, East Java — Prices of several staple commodities in Pamekasan Regency, East Java, remained high in the second week of Ramadan 2026. The situation is reflected in the prices of various foodstuffs at Pasar 17 Agustus, which have not returned to normal since the start of the fasting month. A Kompas.com check on Thursday 5 March 2026 showed chicken meat priced at Rp 42,500 per kilogram. If sold by the bird, prices reached Rp 95,000. ‘Chicken prices remain high. Beef has risen; it is now Rp 122,000 per kilogram, previously Rp 120,000 per kilogram,’ said a trader. Traders noted that food prices have not shown a significant decline since the start of Ramadan. Ahead of Idul Fitri, prices are expected to rise again. ‘Prices are still relatively high across the board at present,’ said vegetable trader Izzah. She said the situation is likely influenced by weather factors affecting the supply of foodstuffs. ‘Probably due to weather factors,’ she added. Prices of other commodities such as tomatoes and carrots are also relatively high. Tomatoes are now sold at Rp 11,000 per kilogram, while carrots at Rp 15,000 per kilogram. ‘Tomatoes continue to rise, albeit slightly,’ she noted. Nahrul, Head of the Trade Division at the Pamekasan Directorate of Industry and Trade (Disperindag), said that some staple prices indeed remain high during Ramadan. ‘There are indeed some that remain high, but still affordable for the public,’ he said. Nevertheless, he noted that several commodities have begun to show price declines. ‘There are also some that have declined,’ he said. Nahrul explained that price increases mainly occurred for beef and chicken as demand rises during Ramadan. ‘However, we will continue to monitor to keep prices stable,’ he added.
