The Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) A Muhaimin Iskandar has officially launched the Tebar Harapan Ramadan (Ramadan Hope Campaign), a collaborative movement for channelling zakat fitrah to disadvantaged communities throughout Indonesia.

Through this programme, the government, in cooperation with Islamic charitable organisations and philanthropic institutions, will distribute 2 million zakat fitrah packages to beneficiaries across Indonesia with a total assistance value reaching Rp441.9 billion.

Minister Muhaimin explained that the programme represents part of efforts to strengthen national collaboration in poverty alleviation through optimising the potential of zakat and community philanthropy.

“This activity is a manifestation of major collaboration between the government, Islamic charitable organisations, and philanthropic organisations to ensure that social assistance can reach disadvantaged communities more broadly and with greater precision,” said Minister Muhaimin during the Lintas Keyakinan Hangat Corridor activity of Joyful Ramadan Collaboration: Indonesia Empowered through Tebar Harapan Ramadan (THR) at Jakarta International Velodrome on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

In implementing this programme, the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment orchestrated 184 Islamic Alms Collection Institutions (LAZ) and 234 philanthropic organisations participating in the Indonesia Empowered platform.

This collaboration represents a strategic step to strengthen coordination of zakat distribution to make it more integrated and have direct impact on communities.

Assistance distribution is focused on beneficiaries in 168 districts across eight provinces with the highest extreme poverty rates, including East Java, West Java, Central Java, North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sumatra, Lampung, and Banten, as well as three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh and West Sumatra, as part of efforts to accelerate poverty alleviation in Indonesia.

Minister Muhaimin hopes that the Ramadan Hope Campaign will not only serve as a moment for sharing during the holy month, but will also become concrete action to strengthen social solidarity and community empowerment.

“Through this collaboration we want to ensure that zakat is not merely temporary assistance, but also becomes a force to encourage communities to rise and become more empowered,” said Minister Muhaimin.

Indonesia possesses strong social capital in the form of the tradition of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) and solidarity that have become national identity.
