Baznas RI, through Rumah Sehat Baznas (RSB), provided free health services to the public, particularly mustahik around Masjid Raya Al Azhar Jababeka in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, as part of an effort to improve accessible health care. The event was attended by 120 beneficiaries and was also joined by the Acting Regent of Bekasi, Dr Asep Surya Atmaja, who is also a doctor. He helped conduct health checks for the community. The health services included medical check-ups, consultations, and treatments, and medicines were provided according to the diagnosis. Saidah Sakwan, head of Baznas RI’s Distribution and Utilisation Division, said the free health service programme is part of Baznas’s efforts to improve the welfare of mustahik through the use of zakat. “Zakat, channelled by muzaki, Baznas safeguards its mandate and distributes to eight asnaf who truly need,” she said in a written statement on Sunday (8/3). “We want to ensure that the public, especially mustahik, can access decent and easily accessible health services. Through this programme, the benefits of zakat are expected to be felt directly by those in need,” she added. Saidah noted that health is a key factor in determining the welfare level of the community. Deteriorating health often increases the economic burden on families. “Poverty often arises when health deteriorates; that is why Baznas is here to prevent all of that,” she said. She added that Baznas will continue to roll out various social and humanitarian programmes, including health services, to assist those in need and strengthen the role of zakat in improving the quality of life of Indonesians. “Zakat must strengthen Indonesia, whether in natural resources (SDA) or human resources (SDM), and these health services are highly relevant to realising all of that,” Saidah said. She hopes the free health service programme will not only help people obtain treatment but also raise awareness of the importance of health and expand the benefits of zakat for the welfare of the Ummah. Baznas, through Rumah Sehat Baznas, continues the Selter Ojek Sehat (SOS) programme, free health services for the public, especially ojek drivers and public transport workers.
