Ramadan Festivities at UBSI Kaliabang Campus: Sharing Rice, Knowledge, and Care for the Community
Bekasi — The holy month of Ramadan has served as an opportune moment for various educational institutions to strengthen social responsibility whilst providing tangible benefits to surrounding communities. Through diverse social and educational activities, campuses have transcended their traditional role as learning centres to become active contributors to their local environments.
Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) at its Kaliabang campus organised a comprehensive series of social and educational activities throughout Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. The initiative, executed by the institution known as the Digital Creative Campus, encompassed food distribution, technology training, and support for orphaned children within the local community.
Between 23 February and 13 March, the UBSI Kaliabang campus systematically distributed approximately 300 meal boxes daily to residents in the surrounding area. This programme demonstrated the academic community’s commitment to local welfare whilst simultaneously strengthening ties between the campus and its neighbourhood.
Digital Workshop
The Ramadan activities reached their pinnacle on Thursday, 12 March 2026, with a knowledge-sharing and support event for orphaned children and students from the Al Hidayah Foundation. Participants gained access to computer training and creative digital workshops designed to enhance technological literacy among young people.
The knowledge-sharing sessions featured information technology specialists who provided basic computer education and guidance on the positive utilisation of digital technology. Participants demonstrated considerable enthusiasm for the interactive and educational training sessions delivered.
Beyond the workshop component, the event included financial assistance for orphaned children, embodying the campus’s social responsibility commitment during this blessed month. This activity simultaneously cultivated a spirit of community contribution and reinforced shared values within the local population.
Muhamad Tabrani, Head of UBSI’s Kaliabang campus, stated that the Ramadan activities represented the institution’s commitment to community service. “Ramadan presents the ideal opportunity to cultivate concern and a spirit of sharing. Through these activities, we wish to demonstrate that a campus functions not merely as a learning institution for students, but also as an entity present to benefit the surrounding community,” Tabrani explained in a statement released on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
He further noted that daily meal distribution and technology training for students constituted concrete manifestations of the campus’s contribution to community support whilst simultaneously advancing digital literacy among young people. “Beyond sharing food, we also wish to share knowledge. We hope that students will acquire new technological understanding that can prove beneficial for their futures,” he added.
The daily meal distribution programme received strong community reception. Masna, a resident regularly receiving meal boxes from the initiative, expressed gratitude for the assistance. “Praise be to God, we are extremely grateful for this meal distribution. Nearly every day we receive food for breaking our fast. Particularly given the current difficult economic circumstances, support such as this proves invaluable for us and other residents,” she stated.
Similar sentiments were expressed by Andi, an online transportation driver who frequently passes near the campus and received meals during iftar time. “Occasionally we drivers remain on the road when iftar time arrives. The meal distribution from UBSI Kaliabang proves extremely helpful for our breaking of the fast. Thank you to the campus for demonstrating concern for the community and drivers such as ourselves,” he said.
Through these Ramadan activities, UBSI as a Digital Creative Campus continues to disseminate a spirit of social responsibility whilst consolidating its role as an educational institution actively contributing to community welfare.
