JAKARTA – Ramadan does not halt operations at oil and gas drilling sites. Amid strategic projects running continuously, officers at PT Elnusa Tbk (IDX: ELSA), a subsidiary of Pertamina’s Upstream Division, continue drilling operations to support the nation’s energy supply.

This scenario is evident at the Cyber Modular Rig EMR-001 operated by PT Elnusa, which is active in Marangkayu, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. The rig represents innovation in Cyber Modular Rig technology, designed as a next-generation drilling solution that is more efficient, precise, and adaptable to site mobilisation, whilst capable of operating continuously for 24 hours non-stop.

EMR-001 Rig Superintendent Mustika stated that working at drilling sites during Ramadan serves as a reminder that work in the energy sector also constitutes a form of service.

“For us, working is also part of worship,” Mustika said, through a press statement on Tuesday (10 March 2026).

“Maintaining safe and smooth operations means contributing to the energy supply the nation requires,” he continued.

Field challenges such as unpredictable weather, distance from family, and 24-hour work cycles form part of the workers’ daily experience. However, these conditions do not diminish their commitment to ensuring smooth drilling operations.

When iftar arrives, the messhall container in the work area transforms into a communal space for workers. Simple meals prepared by the catering team become moments of sharing after a full day of operations.

On the other hand, the onsite medical team monitors workers’ health to ensure they remain in good condition whilst fasting. Sahur and iftar meal schedules are adjusted to support the stamina of officers working in shift systems.

In the simple prayer room, workers perform sahur together, conduct congregational prayers, and observe tarawih. These activities serve as a reminder that Ramadan values can be upheld even whilst engaged in energy industry operations.

Simultaneously, workplace safety discipline remains a top priority. Every operational activity is conducted in accordance with HSSE standards and Golden Rules: Obedience, Intervention, and Care.

As part of a vital national asset, workers recognise that operational safety is not merely a requirement but a work culture that must be maintained so that energy operations proceed without disruption.
