The government through the Ministry of Religious Affairs has set the start of fasting for 1 Ramadan 1447 Hijri to fall on Thursday, 19 February 2026. This decision was made after the Isbat Session held at the Kemenag Office, Jakarta, on Tuesday (17 February 2026) afternoon, chaired by the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar. This year the start of Ramadan is not simultaneous, because Muhammadiyah began fasting on Wednesday, 18 February 2026. This difference does not diminish the validity of the worship, and all Muslims are urged to mutually respect one another. The Isbat Session involved various Islamic organisations, falak experts, and astronomical institutes, and was conducted with the integration of hisab (astronomical calculation) and rukyatul hilal (moon sighting) to maintain uniformity while respecting the differing methods in circulation in the community.
