House of Representatives (DPR RI) member Rajiv from the NasDem Party faction has expressed his concern over the case of confinement and torture of a woman with the initials YTR (29) in Bandung Regency. The heinous act was allegedly perpetrated by a man with the initials TH over a period of three years. According to the legislator from the West Java II electoral district, this case has shaken the sense of humanity among the Indonesian public, particularly in West Java. “I strongly condemn the inhumane actions of the suspect TH, who confined a woman for three years and tortured her. This act is extremely vile and cannot be tolerated in a state of law that upholds human dignity,” Rajiv asserted in a written statement on Tuesday. Rajiv urged the state to provide maximum protection for the victim. He also pressed the police to immediately arrest the perpetrator so that the legal process can be carried out swiftly and transparently. “I am asking the police to deploy all their best capabilities to immediately arrest the perpetrator. The wanted list status that has been issued must be followed up immediately with an arrest so that the perpetrator has no room to escape or destroy evidence,” he stated. Furthermore, Rajiv requested that the perpetrator be given the maximum possible sentence in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations if proven guilty through the judicial process. “If all the accusations and existing evidence are proven in court, then the perpetrator must be punished as severely as possible. The perpetrator’s actions caused the victim prolonged physical and psychological suffering, which is a serious crime that not only injured the victim but also wounded the public’s sense of justice,” he said. Beyond law enforcement, the physical and psychological recovery of the victim also requires serious handling. This is important so that the victim can recover quickly and return to her family and community. “I appreciate the steps taken by medical personnel, the local government, and all parties currently providing assistance to the victim. The victim’s physical, psychological, and social recovery must be a shared priority,” said the young politician. He also called on members of the public who know the perpetrator’s whereabouts to immediately report to the authorities to expedite the arrest process. Rajiv stressed that this case must become a momentum for strengthening the protection of women from acts of violence. “There must be no room for perpetrators of violence to escape legal accountability. The state must ensure that justice is upheld and the victim’s rights are fully restored,” Rajiv concluded.
