Rais Aam PBNU, Muhammadiyah Leader, and MUI Officials Arrive at the Presidential Palace

Rais Aam PBNU Miftahul Achyar, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Iskandar, and Haedar Nashir, the General Chairman of Muhammadiyah, attended an invitation from President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (5 March). According to CNNIndonesia.com, Anwar Iskandar arrived first and was immediately greeted by the ATR/BPN Minister Nusron Wahid. ‘We will break the fast together,’ Anwar said. About five minutes later, Haedar Nashir arrived, accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Food Security Zulkifli Hasan. ‘Yes, later all the general chairmen of the Islamic mass organisations, together with mubalighs, and the heads of pesantren; the larger pesantren with broad networks,’ Anwar Iskandar said. Today, Prabowo again invited leaders of Islamic mass organisations, ulama, and heads of pesantren to the Palace. The plan for the meeting had previously been confirmed by Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar. However Nasaruddin himself said he did not yet know what topics would be discussed at the meeting. He said the agenda was a routine silaturahmi (social gathering). Separately, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani said that it was not beyond the realm of possibility that Prabowo would seek views on Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace (BoP). He said Prabowo is very open to ideas and perspectives from all sides. ‘Tomorrow will also form part of that endeavour; the President wishes to listen to viewpoints, though the President will also share his own thoughts on the matter (Board of Peace),’ Muzani said.
