Rainy Season Still Underway; Eid Mudik Travellers Urged to Exercise Greater Caution
Jakarta, Kompas.com – People planning to undertake Eid al-Fitr mudik travel in mid-March 2026 are urged to exercise greater caution. This is because the period coincides with the rainy season in several parts of Indonesia. Jusri Pulubuhu, founder of Jakarta Defensive Driving Consulting, said travellers should watch out for possible travel disruptions caused by continuing rain. “What needs to be understood at the moment is, God willing our worries won’t come true, but the rainy season is still ongoing. If the rainy season persists until the seventh week, it could disrupt travel significantly,” Jusri told Kompas.com on Sunday, 8 March 2026. He said the impact of bad weather has already been visible on several main routes. A few days earlier, heavy rain caused disruptions on the Pantura corridor. Jusri added that the situation should be of concern to travellers planning long-distance journeys. “Therefore, what needs to be anticipated now is that if the rainy season continues until week seven, mudik travellers must pay more attention to travel conditions,” he said. He also cautioned motorists to always monitor weather information before starting a journey, especially motorcycle riders who are more vulnerable to extreme weather conditions. In addition to monitoring the weather, travellers are advised to ensure their vehicles are in prime condition, such as checking brakes, tyres, lights, and windscreens on cars. These steps are important to reduce the risk of accidents while driving in the rain, particularly when visibility is reduced and road surfaces become slick.
