Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ahmad Jaeni Ashari, a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), has called on the government to pay attention to the health condition of roadside trees during the rainy season to prevent motorists from being struck by falling trees.

“The government, particularly Municipal Parks Departments, should continuously monitor the trees in their cities and regions,” Jaeni said during a discussion in Jakarta on Monday.

Jaeni stated that this was a shared responsibility in order to mitigate the risk of falling trees that could endanger public safety.

In this regard, Jaeni encouraged relevant stakeholders to conduct outreach and training on arboriculture, which involves the study of cultivation, management, and care of woody plants on an individual basis.

He stated that BRIN is open to cooperating in carrying out arboriculture awareness activities so that trees in urban streets can be properly maintained, thereby eliminating incidents of motorists being struck by falling trees.

“The Directorate of Knowledge Collection Management is very open to requests for arboriculture outreach programmes from regional governments. Interested parties may contact the Directorate of Knowledge Collection Management, and we will be happy to assist,” said Dendik Subekti.
