Rainstorm smashes 15 houses

PROBOLINGGO, East Java: A rainstorm hit several subdistricts
over the weekend, destroying 15 houses and knocking down trees.

No casualties were reported, but power cuts occurred.

The storm hit the subdistricts of Kraksaan, Paiton, Pajarakan
and Leces from Saturday evening until well into Sunday night. It
caused panic among local Idul Fitri holiday revelers, Antara
reported.

Traffic on the Kebon Agung road, Kraksaan, which is the route
usually taken by thousands of motorists to Surabaya or
southbound, had to be diverted because a large tree fell across
the road.

Authorities have yet to estimate financial losses caused by
the storm. (swe)
