Rain garden becomes water absorption solution at Taman Wisma Angkasa

The construction of a rain garden, which has now been completed as part of revitalisation works, is expected to provide a water absorption solution at Taman Wisma Angkasa on Jalan Wijaya II, Pulo Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

“So, this rain garden will help to address standing water, improve water absorption into the soil, while also creating a greener, more comfortable and environmentally friendly landscape for the community,” said Budi Hidayat, Head of the Parks and Urban Forests Section at the South Jakarta Parks and Urban Forests Sub-agency, in Jakarta on Saturday.

Budi said the rain garden functions as a rainwater absorption space combined with the arrangement of ornamental plants and natural stones.

The park revitalisation works began in late May 2026 and were completed in July. The work was carried out by Green Troops personnel.

In addition to the rain garden, the 7,900-square-metre park has also been beautified with a variety of ornamental plants and water-absorbing vegetation that is tolerant of standing water, such as lemongrass, begonias, gambier jasmine, red cogon grass, iris ferns and papyrus.

“The park also has pedestrian-friendly facilities, which are equipped with guiding tiles,” he said.

Budi expressed hope that the park’s facilities, including the rain garden, will function optimally in absorbing rainwater to prevent standing water, while also enhancing the beauty of the area.

“Our message is that the community should also play a part in looking after it. One way is by not littering in the area,” he said.

Meanwhile, a resident, Agnes Anggraini (25), expressed appreciation to the South Jakarta Parks and Urban Forests Sub-agency for creating a park with rainwater management facilities. She hopes it will help to address the problem of standing water during rain.

“The park is lovely, and the rain garden makes it even more beautiful,” said Agnes.
