Rain Expected to Continue Across Central Java Until Monday (15/6)

Light to moderate rainfall is predicted to affect Central Java from Sunday (14/6) afternoon until Monday (15/6) morning, with potential tidal flooding (rob) in several areas along the northern coast (Pantura). Residents are urged to remain alert, particularly those living near river basins, as these conditions could disrupt community activities.

Several areas in Central Java have already experienced rain since Sunday afternoon. Light to moderate rain is likely to fall across most of the region from early Sunday evening into Monday morning, especially in mountainous areas, highlands, the Pantura region, and central parts of Central Java.

High waves in the waters remain stable, but high tides are returning to the northern waters of Central Java between 07:00 and 12:00 WIB, with a maximum height of 1 metre. Consequently, residents in Pantura areas such as Pekalongan, Batang, Kendal, Semarang, Demak, Jepara, Pati, and Rembang are asked to be alert and prepared.

“Be aware of light to moderate rain that is likely to fall in several areas of Central Java until Monday (15/6) morning, especially for residents on hillsides and in river basins,” said Agus Triyono, forecaster at the BMKG Semarang Meteorological Station, on Sunday evening.

Agus Triyono stated that areas in Central Java likely to experience light to moderate rain include Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Karanganyar, Sragen, Brebes, Tegal, Bumiayu, and Majenang. Meanwhile, most other areas are expected to see light rain, with some remaining cloudy.

“Winds are blowing from the northeast to the southwest at speeds of 3-20 kilometres per hour, with temperatures of 14-30 degrees Celsius and humidity of 75-95 percent,” he added.

Retna Swasti Karini, forecaster at the BMKG Tanjung Emas Maritime Station in Semarang, said that in addition to ongoing rain, high tides will also occur again in the northern waters of Central Java on Monday morning, potentially causing flooding in Pantura areas. “Stay alert and prepared for residents in several Pantura areas,” she said.

According to Retna Swasti Karini, the tidal flooding will not only inundate dozens of villages in coastal areas but will also disrupt residents’ activities such as transportation, loading and unloading of goods at ports, inland aquaculture, and salt farming businesses.
