Rain disrupts Indonesian Open

JAKARTA (JP): Persistent drizzle forced organizers to stop the
first round of the Indonesian Open golf championship, leaving
scores of players to abandon the unplayable layout.

Christian Chernock of the U.S., South Korean Kim Jong-duk and
Don Walsworth of South Africa, who all managed to finish the
round before the rain washed out the Jagorawi Golf and Country
Club, shared the unfinished round each with a 4-under par-67.

Chernock went out with three fine birdies against a bogey for
a 34. Homeward bound he birdied two on the 15th and 16th for a
33. Kim carded a 36 in the front nine and returned home with
magnificent 31.

Bunched at second place are three players. They are Rodrigo
Cuello of the Philippines, Rick Todd of Canada and Greg Lesher of
the U.S. each with a 68.

Cuello opened the round poorly with two early bogey shots and
three birdies in the first round. He went home with a clean sheet
and two birdies on the 12th and 14th.

Defending champion Jose Cantero of Argentine was placed third
with three other players, American Ray Cragun and compatriot
Larry Barber and Indonesian Maan Naasim each with a 69.

Cantero who won the title when the event was held at Pantai
Indah Kapuk in West Jakarta, fired three birdies and a bogey.

Cragun went out with two birdies and went home with an even
par following a two birdie shots and two bogey putts.

A huge field of 146 golfers from 14 countries are competing
for the US$250,000 cash prize scheduled to end on Sunday. (05)
