Railway security questioned
Railway security questioned
From Warta Kota
A robbery attempt on the Citra Jaya economy-class train was foiled after its victims reported it to the police recently. In fact, such crimes are frequent, as most passengers are reluctant to report them.
Disguising themselves as hawkers or street musicians, thieves extort money, and the passengers' possessions, in the absence of security personnel.
Therefore, all economy-class trains should prohibit hawkers from boarding, as is the case with executive and business classes. Food and snack sellers should only be allowed to board trains at railway stations.
Meanwhile, executives of state railway company PTKA should conduct incognito inspections of economy-class trains like Citra Jaya, Brantas, Tawang Jaya and Tegal Arum, so that they can experience for themselves the suffering of low-income passengers due to poor service.
