Railway Punctuality Improves in the First Quarter of 2026, Safety Remains a Priority
In the first quarter of 2026, KAI recorded an OTP for passenger trains of 99.69% (departure) and 97.67% (arrival), as well as OTP for freight trains of 95.97% (departure) and 91.77% (arrival).
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has recorded an improvement in on-time performance (OTP) during the first quarter of 2026. This achievement demonstrates increasingly consistent train journeys, with safety continuously maintained in every operation.
For passenger services, the departure OTP reached 99.69% and arrival 97.67%. These figures are an increase compared to the first quarter of 2025, with departure at 99.24% and arrival at 95.44%. This consistency makes journeys more predictable from start to destination.
For freight transport, the departure OTP was recorded at 95.97% and arrival at 91.77%. This performance is higher than the same period in the previous year, with departure at 95.89% and arrival at 87.04%. This punctuality supports logistics distribution that continues to run safely and according to needs.
KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that this improvement is supported by infrastructure readiness, vehicle reliability, and operational discipline that runs alongside safety standards.
“Punctuality and safety go hand in hand in every journey. All processes are planned and executed carefully so that customers can travel with peace of mind and transported goods arrive according to needs,” said Anne.
This performance is also evident from the increase in service volume. Throughout the first quarter of 2026, KAI’s long-distance and local train services served 14,515,350 customers, an increase of 18.40% compared to 12,261,632 customers in the same period the previous year.
In the logistics sector, KAI transported 12,075,002 tonnes of coal to maintain electricity supply in Java and Bali. In addition, 2,873,440 tonnes of other goods were transported, ranging from containers, plantation products, to retail shipments that support economic activities in various regions.
Anne added that the maintained punctuality has a direct impact on community and business activities. Consistent schedules help with more certain planning, while goods distribution continues to flow safely.
“Journeys that are on time help activities run according to plan. The public can move with more certainty, while goods distribution also arrives according to needs,” Anne concluded.
