Railway Occupancy Reaches 150.7 Percent During Return Flow
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 242,773 tickets sold on 22 March 2026, during the Lebaran return flow period. “KAI recorded a new record with 242,773 long-distance rail passengers in one day, with an occupancy rate reaching 150.7 percent,” quoting a post from the Instagram account @keretaapikita, on Monday, 23 March 2026.
As of 23 March 2026 at 9:00 WIB, KAI recorded ticket sales of 4,028,839 tickets, consisting of long-distance and local trains. This figure represents 89.6 percent of the total capacity of 4,498,696 seats provided during the Lebaran travel period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. This means there are still 469,857 seats available for various routes.
Of the total 4 million tickets sold, the majority are for long-distance trains. KAI recorded 3,507,988 tickets for long-distance journeys. The total capacity for long-distance trains is 3,571,760 seats, leaving approximately 63,772 seats available. Thus, the occupancy rate for long-distance trains reaches 98.2 percent.
The trains with high bookings during the 2026 Lebaran travel period are Kereta Api Airlangga, Kereta Api Johlosemarkerto, Kereta Api Sri Tanjung, Kereta Api Bengawan, Kereta Api Kahuripan, Kereta Api Rajabasa, and Kereta Api Jayakarta.
Meanwhile, KAI recorded 520,851 local train tickets sold as of 23 March 2026. Local train tickets still have 406,085 seats available, as the total seats provided are 926,936. “Sales of local train tickets generally increase because bookings opened from H-7,” said KAI.
The following is the daily occupancy detail for long-distance trains:
• 11 March: 101,617 passengers out of 159,404 seat capacity (63.7 percent)
• 12 March: 126,208 passengers out of 159,404 seat capacity (79.2 percent)
• 13 March: 165,675 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (101.4 percent)
• 14 March: 185,873 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (113.7 percent)
• 15 March: 180,836 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (110.6 percent)
• 16 March: 173,753 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (106.3 percent)
• 17 March: 191,413 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (117.1 percent)
• 18 March: 205,842 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (125.9 percent)
• 19 March: 196,324 passengers out of 163,432 seat capacity (120.1 percent)
