Railway Lines Become a Mainstay of Distribution as KAI Transports 42,405 Tonnes of Goods at the Start of 2026
KOMPAS.com – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded retail goods transport of 42,405 tonnes during January–February 2026. This achievement serves as an indicator of smooth distribution ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH / 2026 CE. ‘The early part of the year is a crucial phase for businesses to ensure stock availability before the peak demand period,’ said Anne Purba, Vice President Corporate Communications of KAI, in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. Scheduled shipment patterns with measured transport capacity help businesses, including micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM), maintain supply continuity. Assured travel times also allow for more precise planning so that the flow of goods from production centres to consumption centres can run efficiently. The early 2026 performance continues the positive trend seen over the past two years. Throughout 2025, KAI’s retail transport volumes reached 252,976 tonnes, up from 224,865 tonnes in 2024. The increase underscores the role of rail-based transport in strengthening inter-regional supply chains consistently. The service has been integrated with a range of courier and intercity shipping services, enabling businesses to reach wider markets at competitive costs. Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, goods movements tend to rise in tandem with growing consumer demand. Smooth distribution also helps stabilise market supplies and supports economic activity in various regions. In addition, rail-based distribution helps reduce road traffic congestion and improve logistics cost efficiency. Collaboration with business partners has also been strengthened to safeguard service reliability and on-time deliveries. ‘A stable flow of goods is a key element in supporting UMKM, trade, and the public’s readiness to welcome Eid al-Fitr,’ said Anne.
