Railway Crossing in Serpong Damaged, Many Motorists Get Stuck as Road Becomes Slippery

TANGERANG SELATAN — The railway crossing near Serpong Station, Tangerang Selatan, was in a damaged condition on Friday (6 March 2026). Observations at the site showed the surface of the crossing road was littered with small stones and soil. This condition forces vehicles to be extra careful; many riders, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled, slow down as they pass the crossing.

Serpong resident Oblong (50) said the damage at the crossing had been ongoing for quite some time. Although repairs have been carried out on several occasions, the condition deteriorates again quickly. “The holes are deep, but now they have been filled and topped with stones. This condition has been ongoing for a long time,” Oblong told Kompas.com at the site on Friday. He noted that repairs over the years typically involved only resurfacing or filling with stones, methods he regards as not lasting long. “If you only asphalt it, it’s useless; no matter how thick the asphalt, it will end up damaged again.”

Similar complaints were expressed by another resident, Bambang (60). He said the crossing is often repaired, but the damage recurs. “It’s actually repaired often, but its durability is not long. Even if repaired continuously, it becomes damaged again,” he said. He hopes the crossing can be fixed with higher quality so it does not deteriorate quickly. Bambang also believes that building a flyover could be a long-term solution to enhance safety for road users.
