A railway crossing guard in Leuwigoong, on Jalan Karangsari-Cibatu, Garut Regency, West Java, was the victim of a mob attack while securing the crossing on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred after the guard attempted to stop a motorcyclist who was trying to force his way through after the crossing barrier had been lowered. Kuswardojo, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 2 Bandung, stated on Monday that the guard was closing the crossing gate to ensure the safe passage of the Serayu train. When the gate was closed, a motorcyclist attempted to breach the crossing. The guard reprimanded the rider, but the warning was met with an arrogant response, namely a physical assault. The motorcyclist who was reprimanded returned to the guard post with three other individuals and they proceeded to beat the on-duty guard. Following the incident, the perpetrators fled the scene. As a result of the attack, the Leuwigoong crossing guard sustained bruising to his face and scratch wounds on his hands. PT KAI expressed deep regret and condemned the assault on the crossing guard, who was carrying out his duties to ensure the safety of train journeys and road users. The company confirmed the guard had followed standard operational procedures by closing the crossing before the train passed and by warning road users who violated the rules. PT KAI has coordinated with local police to follow up on the incident and hopes the authorities will promptly process the perpetrators in accordance with the law.
