Rail-Based Freight Transport Can Reduce Overloading Potential, Says KAI

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta has stated that the use of rail-based freight transport can reduce dependence on road transport and help suppress the potential for Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) vehicles.

Furthermore, the Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, noted that the use of railways is also part of the effort to realise a greener and more sustainable national logistics system, in line with the government’s commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards and low-carbon transport development.

“The more goods distribution shifts to railways, the greater the contribution towards creating sustainable transportation,” said Franoto in an official statement on Wednesday.

He added that KAI Daop 1 Jakarta remains open to cooperation opportunities with various business actors, industries, and logistics service providers that require rail-based freight services.

“We are ready to support goods distribution needs with services that are safe, efficient, competitive, and environmentally friendly,” said Franoto.

He mentioned that this growth indicates increasing customer confidence in efficient, punctual, and sustainable rail-based freight services.

“Railways serve as a logistics solution capable of transporting large quantities of goods safely, on time, and more efficiently,” Franoto remarked.

Meanwhile, he added that container commodities remain the largest contributor, accounting for more than 94 per cent of the total freight volume.

To support the smooth operation of freight transport, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is supported by adequate facilities, consisting of 633 freight wagons, 51 baggage wagons, and a reliable fleet of locomotives.

“Moving forward, we will continue to improve service quality, strengthen logistics connectivity, and provide services that are increasingly reliable and competitive,” concluded Franoto.
