Rail-Based Freight Transport Can Reduce Overloading Potential, Says KAI

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta has stated that the use of rail-based freight transport can reduce dependence on road transport and help curb the potential for overloaded vehicles, known as Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL). Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, added that the use of trains is also part of an effort to realise a greener and more sustainable national logistics system, in line with the government’s commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and low-carbon transport development. “The more goods distribution shifts to rail, the greater the contribution to creating sustainable transportation,” Franoto said in an official statement on Wednesday. He said KAI Daop 1 Jakarta remains open to cooperation opportunities with various businesses, industries, and logistics service providers that require rail-based freight services. “We are ready to support goods distribution needs with services that are safe, efficient, competitive, and environmentally friendly,” Franoto stated. He noted that growth in the sector reflects increasing customer trust in rail-based freight services, which are efficient, punctual, and sustainable. “The railway is a logistics solution capable of transporting large quantities of goods safely, on time, and more efficiently,” Franoto said. He added that container commodities remain the largest contributor, accounting for more than 94 percent of the total freight volume. To support smooth freight operations, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta is supported by adequate facilities, consisting of 633 freight wagons, 51 baggage cars, and a reliable fleet of locomotives. “Going forward, we will continue to improve service quality, strengthen logistics connectivity, and deliver increasingly reliable and competitive services,” Franoto concluded.
