Rail Ballast Distribution Reaches 167 Thousand Cubic Metres
KAI Logistik (Kalog) is carrying out rail ballast distribution work in stages throughout 2026 across all Operational Areas (Daop) and Regional Divisions (Divre) of KAI in Java and Sumatra. The work is being undertaken to support infrastructure reliability and railway travel safety.
Ballast distribution is the activity of lowering and spreading ballast stones evenly along the rail track. The material serves to maintain the stability of the rail and sleeper positions so that infrastructure conditions continue to meet the operational requirements of railway travel.
VP of Commercial at Kalog, Ferdian Pardosi, said the company ensures that maintenance material distribution reaches the locations that need it according to schedule and technical specifications.
“Ballast distribution work is one of the important elements in supporting the reliability and safety of railway travel in the operational areas of Java and Sumatra. We are focused on ensuring that material distribution and operational implementation in the field run on time, on target, and in accordance with the required specifications,” said Ferdian.
To date, the physical realisation of ballast distribution work has reached approximately 167,000 cubic metres out of a total estimate of 396,000 cubic metres. The work is still ongoing in stages across a number of Daop and Divre according to track maintenance needs.
Ferdian said the achievement shows that the work is proceeding according to the established plan. Kalog will continue the implementation of the work by maintaining the accuracy of distribution and execution in the field.
“This achievement reflects the team’s commitment to ensuring the work proceeds according to plan. We will continue to maintain implementation accuracy so that track maintenance needs can be properly met,” he said.
In its implementation, Kalog applies supervision and monitoring to ensure that the volume and quality of material comply with technical specifications. Supervision is carried out at every stage of the work to maintain the quality of the ballast distribution results.
In addition to supervision during the work, Kalog provides a maintenance period guarantee of 180 calendar days after the work is handed over. The guarantee is intended to ensure that the work results remain maintained and support the reliability of rail infrastructure.
Ferdian emphasised that Kalog’s involvement in the work is part of the company’s support for the national railway ecosystem. The company’s role includes not only logistics and cargo services, but also the distribution of materials needed for rail track maintenance.
