Rahardi's case to go to court soon

JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office will soon file the case against former chief of the State Logistics Agency, Rahardi Ramelan, with Central Jakarta District Court, an official said.

Prosecutor Manaf Djubaedi told reporters on Friday that the investigation into the misuse of Rp 54.6 billion in non-budgetary funds belonging to Bulog had been completed.

"The case will be filed by the end of the month," Manaf, who will be the public prosecutor to the case, added.

Rahardi is charged with Law No. 3/1971 on corruption, for wrongfully disbursing the money in 1999. Most of the money, Rp 40 billion, was earmarked for a food for the poor project. House Speaker/Golkar chief Akbar Tanjung is also implicated in the case.

Another Rp 10 billion went to the then military chief Wiranto for security operations and the other Rp 4.6 billion to fund a land swap deal with a private company.

Akbar, the then state/cabinet secretary, has been named a suspect for allegedly diverting the Rp 40 billion to Golkar. --JP
