Ragunan Zoo to showcase gorilla feeding attraction for 81st Independence Day

The management of Ragunan Zoo in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, presented a gorilla feeding attraction during the celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday, 17 August 2026.

“There is a gorilla feeding attraction with an 81st Indonesian Independence Day theme,” said Ragunan Zoo Public Relations officer Wahyudi Bambang in Jakarta on Thursday.

He confirmed that Ragunan Zoo remains open even though the date coincides with a national public holiday.

Meanwhile, the zoo’s regular weekly closure, which usually falls on Monday, has been shifted by one day. As a result, the tourist attraction will be closed on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.

“Yes, because the 17th is a national holiday, Ragunan remains open. The operational holiday is moved back one day to Tuesday,” Wahyudi said.

In addition to the animal attraction, independence-themed ornaments have also been installed in several areas of Ragunan Zoo to add to the festive atmosphere of the Independence Day celebration for visitors.

However, the activity is intended for the internal management of Ragunan Zoo.

“We have an internal event for the keepers or animal caretakers,” Wahyudi said.

As is known, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo plans to raise the entrance ticket prices for Ragunan Zoo for non-Jakarta residents and foreign tourists.

However, he has not yet detailed the ticket prices that will be charged for Jakarta residents, non-Jakarta residents and foreign tourists.

According to him, the tariff increase aims to maintain the beauty of Ragunan and improve visitor comfort.

Moreover, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to revitalise the tourist area, so the ticket price increase is considered reasonable.

For information, the current entrance ticket price for Ragunan is set at Rp4,000 for adults and Rp3,000 for children.
