Ragunan Zoo Management Struggles to Identify Child Who Fell into Elephant Enclosure
Ragunan Wildlife Park management has reported that a child’s fall into an elephant enclosure occurred outside CCTV coverage, preventing clear identification of the victim. The incident was uploaded by a TikTok user @/niltasafiitri2, showing the child in a moat within the elephant enclosure area with an elephant nearby. The child attempted to seek help and climb back up, and was later pulled out by a man.
The exact time and sequence of events remain unclear as no reports were received by staff during the incident, and the lack of CCTV footage complicates investigation.
“Outside CCTV range (face not clearly visible),” said Wahyudi Bambang, Head of Public Relations (Humas) at Ragunan Wildlife Park.
Management suspects the video was deliberately created for content purposes, citing the absence of panic among onlookers. “The indication is that the video was posted to go viral due to the lack of visible panic when the child fell into the enclosure,” Wahyudi added.
They also suspect inadequate parental supervision during the incident. Consequently, safety barriers and warnings have been reinforced. “This serves as a reminder for visitors not to exceed safety barriers, which could endanger both visitors and wildlife,” Wahyudi stated.
Moving forward, management will review and strengthen oversight to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
